Feeling brokenhearted after Valentine’s? Could cocoa be the partner you’re missing?

If Cupid’s Arrow missed the mark this Valentine’s Day, don’t despair. The connection between hearts and chocolates is not just a 14th of February clique; they are a great pairing all year round for lovers of great health.

Multiple studies have proven that there is a positive correlation between consumption of cocoa and cardiac health. So, whether your Valentine’s day was bountiful in grand romantic gestures or not, now could be the perfect time to show yourself some love and treat your heart – by including cocoa supplements in your diet.

The Theobroma cacao plant has a long association with pleasure and well-being. The Aztec Emperor Montezuma was a proponent of the inclusion of cocoa in the diet. He claimed that it was a ‘divine drink, which builds up resistance and fights fatigue’.

In modern society, the mood lifting power of chocolate requires little promotion, but munching on your favourite foil wrapped bar grabbed from the corner shop is perhaps not the best means to reap the nutritive rewards of the cacao bean.

Epidemiological data demonstrates that regular dietary intake of plant-derived foods and beverages reduces the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke and is inversely associated with the risk of cardiovascular disease. Key to the health boost offered by are plant-based flavonoids – which cocoa products are abundant in.

A based Dutch Study has also determined that cocoa intake was inversely related to blood pressure. The researchers also found that its inclusion in the diet was associated with a reduction of cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. After adjustment for age, body mass index, lifestyle factors, drug use, food, and caloric intake, the risk of cardiovascular mortality for participants with the highest cocoa intake was reduced by 50% compared with those who had the lowest consumption levels.

Our extensive product portfolio includes many supplements which can provide the optimal botanical benefits that the Theobroma plants have to offer.
